Wat: A type of Buddhist or Hindu temple in Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand.
We’ve just wrapped up our time in Siem Reap, Cambodia and Luang Prabang, Laos…both amazing cities and home to some of the friendliest people! Southeast Asia has been very far from disappointing. We visited a number of temples (wats), indulged in local cuisine, shopped at numerous night markets, swam in some of the most beautiful natural waters we’ve seen…and most importantly, celebrated the birthday of Matthew James Sheldon! Highlights below:
Siem Reap, Cambodia
– Climbing temples galore in the intense heat, but totally worth it. Among the popular temples we visited were Ta Prohm Temple (aka Tomb Raider Temple), and the famous and impressive Angkor Wat.
– Waking up at 5 in the morning to catch the sunrise at Angkor Wat (sadly turned out to be a fail due to Mother Nature not cooperating with us – rain and clouds)
– Experiencing Siem Reap’s lively “Pub Street” and night markets. Great atmosphere and super cheap! You can pretty much get anything there for a buck.
Luang Prabang, Laos
– Exploring the nearby bars, restaurants and street markets. Similar to Siem Reap, but more of a relaxed vibe.
– Private boat ride on the Mekong River with a few stops at local villages and caves along the way.
– Celebrating Matt’s Birthday by spending the day swimming in the stunning Kuang Si Falls.
