Mother Russia

With Halloween being one of our favorite “holidays”, we were sad to miss out this year as we spent most of our time on a plane doped up on ambien…but onward we went to our next destination: Russia.

Saint Petersburg Highlights:
– Tour company forgetting to give us train tickets to St. Petersburg, so we hung out at the TGIFridays in Moscow (only place that had semi-English speaking workers) for a couple of hours until a local rep met with us.
– Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum Tour
– Peter Paul Fortress and Cathedral (we saw some ladies “tan” against the fortress wall in 30 degree weather)
– Attempting (and failing) to ship souvenirs at the post office with the little Russian we understood
– Vodka shots and caviar at the adorable Katysha Restaurant

Moscow Highlights:
– Delicious dinner at the original Mari Vanna (we’re not huge cat fans, but the restaurant’s cat “Benjamin” was pretty cute).
– City tour with our fun and quirky guide Lena (she went the extra mile and went to the Post Office with us as our interpreter so we could finally ship gifts)
– Red Square – GYM (pronounced “goom”) and Saint Basil’s Cathedral were awesome to see lit up at night
– Kremlin tour
– Delicious dinner at Cafe Pushkin (beautiful interiors with each room having a vintage pharmacy or library theme, great ambiance, and unique desserts)

All-in-all Russia was pretty cool, although maybe next time we’ll visit when it’s not winter season 😬

We’re now warming up in Bali as we begin the last third of our trip in South East Asia. More on our next post!
