The first week of our trip has quickly come and gone. We visited two very fun and different cities in Spain, saw some amazing architecture, and ate…A LOT. Matt actually got sick the first couple of days, but he powered through like a champ and walked around Madrid in the 90 degree heat.
Madrid Highlights:
- Retiro Park – Despite Matt being sick, we took a couple of hours walking through the serene area that included unique buildings, sculptures, and other various types of art in every corner.
- Dinner at Sobrino de Botin (opened in 1725)- the oldest restaurant in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. We requested a table in the cellar taking pleasure in the historic atmosphere and intimate setting…the food wasn’t bad either 🙂
- Museo del Prado – although we aren’t art enthusiasts, we felt obliged to go as it is considered to be one of the world’s greatest galleries.
Barcelona Highlights:
- Gaudí EVERYTHING. This man was an architectural genius. From Casa Batllo to the incredible Sagrada Familia, we were both absolutely taken away by these works of art.
One thing we noticed about both cities was that it seemed like no one worked (and we don’t mean this offensively)! No matter what time of day, the streets, restaurants, and bars were always packed with people having a drink or snack and just hanging out at their leisure. Definitely a lifestyle we could easily adapt to, but on to the next!
