And so we transition from the snowy cities of Russia to the beautiful warm jungles of Bali! We chose to stay in the Ubud region of the island and split our time between two phenomenal resorts. Alila Ubud provided us with a plethora of activities including, but not limited to:
– A bike ride around the local villages and rice terraces (we made the mistake of NOT listening to the staff and going later than suggested which resulted in a VERY warm ride…but we survived).
– An afternoon yoga session in one of their private gardens, complete with visits from the area’s monkey inhabitants
– A tour of several UNESCO sites, including the beautiful Ulun Danu Temple on Lake Beratan (this lake is in the middle of a mountain), as well as the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces.
As for our second resort, Hanging Gardens of Bali…absolutely wonderful!!! This was definitely a place for us to completely relax (as if we weren’t already in major relaxation mode). The resort’s famous infinity pools overlooking the jungle were amazing. Our room/sanctuary was perfection as we had a private infinity pool of our own, making it that much harder for us to leave.
When we weren’t lounging by the pool or getting massages, we explored Ubud’s main town and checked out the local shops, bars, restaurants, and even visited the “Sacred Monkey Forest” which was pure entertainment.
Bali. We will be back again.
