We blessed the rains down in Africa yet again. Having done a few safaris on previous travels, we definitely wanted to include another for this trip…but first, Gorilla Trekking in the Congo!

Per our Instagram post, we had quite the time actually getting to the Gorillas. A flight cancellation really screwed our schedule to the point where we thought we would miss the whole excursion..but we lucked out. The airline created a last minute flight to Rwanda for us and seven other passengers (we had an entire 737 to ourselves). We may have also bribed a government official to allow us through the Congo border before opening hours to make our trek, but that’s neither here nor there. With only four hours of sleep, we powered through our multiple hour trek through the jungle and eventually came face to face with the Nyakamwe family of wild silverback gorillas. It was truly an incredible experience!

The days following were far more relaxed and laid back. We headed to Tanzania and started our East African Safari. We tracked the great migration and viewed other wildlife during our game drives. The schedule and areas we explored in East Africa were vastly different compared to our South African Safari back in 2014, but both were wonderful and we had a blast.

We have officially concluded our time in Africa…for this trip at least. A bit of a rough start, but all worked out in the end. Up next…Russia! Until our next post…
